woodwind quintet (2025)

In 2006 I wrote a horn quintet titled “Hornblende” which I revised for brass quintet four years later. Out of the Windwork borrows (all right, plunders) the initial two-bar phrase as well as four of the last five measures, then, through the use of melodic and harmonic variation, expands the piece by 50.39 percent. After all, “reduce, reuse and recycle” are not only the three pillars of sustainable waste management but also contemporary music composition.
